Zambia calls for global collaboration at the Aerospace Power Conference in Rome
News · 9 May 2025
At the AeroSpace Power Conference in Rome, Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Msitu Nyoni outlined Zambia's vision for deeper global and regional collaboration in aerospace as a driver of security and socio-economic development. He stressed that Africa must actively claim its place in the aerospace domain and that no country can address emerging security challenges alone.
Lt Gen Nyoni highlighted the economic benefits of satellite-enabled services in agriculture, logistics and disaster response, and pointed to modern technologies such as space-based systems and cyber capabilities. He also commended Italian defence and aerospace company Leonardo as a key partner, reflecting the growing defence-industrial relationship between Zambia and Italy.
Hosted by the Italian Air Force, the conference provided an important platform for Zambia to build partnerships with Italian and international actors in the aerospace and defence sectors, supported by the Embassy of Zambia in Rome.
