On the margins of the Mattei Plan high-level meeting in Rome, Zambia concluded two important Letters of Intent to support the Lobito Corridor and strengthen regional connectivity. Hon. Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane signed a Letter of Intent with the African Development Bank for approximately 550 kilometres of new railway between Chingola and the Angolan border, together with about 260 kilometres of supporting road infrastructure.

A second Letter of Intent with the European Union reaffirmed EU support for the corridor under the Global Gateway Strategy and Italy's Mattei Plan to mobilise large-scale investment in African infrastructure. The announcements highlighted the Embassy's role in explaining Zambia's infrastructure and investment partnerships to Italian, European and international audiences.

The agreements are expected to reduce transport costs, improve access to Atlantic-coast ports and open new opportunities for Zambian exporters, while anchoring Italy and EU institutions as long-term partners in Zambia's economic transformation.
